Six yards is a stunner for a reason.
And when that six yards is handloom — no designer outfit stands a chance.
My love for sarees was reignited while reading about the harmful effects of fast fashion. What began as curiosity turned into awe, as I discovered the magic of Indian weaves — each state, each region telling its own textile tale.
I decided to own and wear every Indian weave I could. And to make sarees a part of my daily life, I began pairing them with stretchable crop tops. They offer comfort, flexibility, and let me glide through my workday with ease.
If you're someone who wants to wear sarees but fear they’re too tedious, here are some tips that helped me:
1. Choose the right fabric.
Cotton and mulmul (feather-light cotton) are perfect for hot days and long hours.
2. Invest in comfy crop tops.
Stretchy, breathable, and size-inclusive — they work with everything and don’t need last-minute alterations.
3. Ditch the pressure for perfection.
Don’t stress about perfect pleats. Experiment with draping styles — make it fun, not a ritual.
4. Don’t fall for the myth that sarees are “uncomfortable.”
They’re graceful, breathable, inclusive, and timeless. Pick the right fabric, and you’ll never look back.
If you’ve been putting off wearing a saree, now’s the time.
Start with easy, breezy cottons or mulmuls. Explore weaves. Embrace your roots. And support Indian artisans and handloom communities — by simply wearing what they create with love.
